Directions to Go Orange Doubtful Sound Day Cruise
Go Orange's Doubtful Sound Day Cruise will take you on an adventure to one of the most beautiful and far-flung corners of New Zealand.
Manapouri, the second deepest lake in New Zealand, is dotted with tiny islands, ringed with sandy beaches, calm bays and hemmed in by towering mountain ranges - it is a sight like no other. On a calm day, the still waters of the lake will act as a near perfect reflection of the scenery. What better place for a cruise?
With Go Orange's Doubtful Sound Cruise, your exploration begins with a cruise of Lake Manapouri, followed by a trip to the Department of Conservation visitor centre at West Arm. You then board a coach for a spectacular drive over Wilmot Pass to Deep Cove, Doubtful Sound.
Upon arrival at Doubtful Sound, your group (maximum 45 people, to ensure a personalised experience) will board the 21-meter Tasman Explorer for a leisurely, three-hour scenic cruise of the Sound. You will see rugged mountain ranges with waterfalls tumbling down their sides; thick, sub-tropical rainforests; and deep valleys carved out by ancient glaciers.
Unique wildlife lives in Doubtful Sound, so keep your eyes out for dolphins, penguins, seals and other sea birds as you cruise through this remote slice of the Fiordland World Heritage area. The knowledgeable crew will offer insightful information about what you see and will happily answer all your questions.
The experience lasts for a full day, departing from Pearl Harbour in Manapouri at 10.00am and an additional departure at 7:15am in the peak summer period.
Prices from $110.
Free shuttle service from Te Anau or Manapouri accommodation.
