One of the most popular flights takes visitors from Wanaka to Milford Sound. The advantage of departing from Wanaka is more flying time and a route that offers amazing views of Mt Aspiring National Park and many glaciers that cannot be viewed if flying from Queenstown.  The scenic 1 hour drive from Queenstown to Wanaka can be part of a circular loop allowing you different views of the stunning scenery on your return to Queenstown. 

The Wanaka to Milford Sound trip begins with a 45 minute flight from Wanaka past the soaring Southern Alps and through two national parks taking in glaciers, icefalls, waterfalls, and rainforest, before flying the full length and enjoying the best views of Milford Sound.

After the flight, see the amazing scenery, cascading waterfalls and the iconic Mitre Peak from a different viewpoint, with a two-hour cruise along the Sound with guided commentary. It's also an opportunity to spot seals, dolphins, and penguins. During the cruise, guests can also relax with complimentary tea and coffee.

The return flight offers the chance to see more of the South Island's most beautiful scenery, following a different flight path including Glenorchy, Lake Wakatipu, ice, waterfalls and many other Alpine Highlights hidden amongst the Southern Alps.
