The Kiwi is a national icon, and the Kiwi Birdlife Park in Queenstown offers the chance to get up close and personal with these native birds.

As well as Brown Kiwi, the park is home to many other breeds of native New Zealand birds including the cheeky Kea mountain parrot, the Weka and brightly coloured parakeets. Visitors can also see the tuatara, a reptile thought to be as old as dinosaurs.

Visitors are free to wander around the park at their leisure or to take an audio tour that explains more about each species. Daily talks from the park's keepers offer a more detailed insight into some of the park's favourite residents and include the chance to watch the Kiwis being fed.

The park is open every day except Christmas Day from 9am. It is located at the bottom of Queenstown's Skyline gondola and combined tickets can be purchased giving admission to both attractions.
