Gibbston Valley Winery - Queenstown
Book the cave tour first, where you'll be treated to a history of wine making in the region plus sample some of the vineyard's latest releases. You can then enjoy lunch in the restaurant and sample more wine!
The premier vineyard in the Gibbston Valley wine region, with cellar door and fine dining restaurant, plus unique tours into the wine cave - a fantastic whole day out.
Gibbston Valley Winery sits due east of Queenstown, and is the area's largest and most famous vineyard. There's a cellar door, where you can sample the latest releases, plus some established pinot noirs, and single vineyard wines. Join the Wine Club, and you'll get discounts on purchases, plus free shipping to wherever you're staying in New Zealand.
In addition, there's a relaxing wine bar, in which you can find some of Gibbston Valley's most popular wines, past and present, but a word of warning....once you settle in, you may find it hard to get out, especially in winter, when the roaring fire and comfortable armchairs in the lounge make it impossible to move. In summer, take yourself out into the courtyard and feel the sun on your back as you sup on some particularly fruity vintages.
The Winery also houses a renowned fine dining restaurant, open daily for lunch, with a locally-inspired menu and great service. Enjoy a 3-course meal either inside the spacious, light and attractive interior, or the amazing al fresco dining terrace, with that picturesque vineyard backdrop and warm sunshine. All ingredients are fresh and sourced from local artisan suppliers and farmers, so you know that what arrives on your plate is the very freshest it can be.
The menu changes according to season, and the restaurant is famous for its generous portions so, unlike many fine dining establishments, you won't go home hungry. Instead, your only dilemma will be which of the mouthwatering dishes to choose. Whatever you choose, you'll also have the perfect choice of wines to accompany your meal, literally straight from the cellar door.
It's always a good idea to go on one of the winery's cave tours first, where you'll be treated to a potted history of wine making in the region, as well as get to stand in the impressive wine cave, and sample some of the vineyard's latest releases. Then, you'll have a better idea of exactly which wine will best accompany your meal.
