St Omer Park is a picturesque landscaped park that runs parallel with Lake Wakatipu. With gorgeous views of the Lake and the Remarkables mountains, the park is a popular spot for walks and picnics.
Named after an early Queenstown settler and mayor, Francois St Omer, the park began life with St Omer and his son Frank turning once barren land into a place with weeping willow trees that nestle against the waters of the lake.
Joined by the local chemist, Lewis Hoptop, they were responsible for the planting of many of the trees seen today throughout Queenstown. Frank continued with the tree planting long after the death of his father and subsequently left the park to the council.
Today, the park includes a playground area for kids, BBQ cooking facilities and plenty of space to enjoy the views. On warmer nights, the park is popular with groups and families enjoying the use of the BBQ cooking stations away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Queenstown.
