Domaine-Thomson Wines
At Domaine Thomson we're all about your enjoyment, comfort and amazing spaces where you can try incredible wines from our 14ha certified Organic Pinot Noir vineyard in Cromwell and wines from our Chardonnay & Pinot Noir vineyards in Burgundy, France.
The rustic, yet refined Cellar Door is nestled amongst the vines in the 14 hectare certified Organic Pinot Noir vineyard. Visitors can enjoy sampling wines from both Central Otago and Burgundy. From Central Otago, a range of award-winning Pinot Noir wines are produced. In Burgundy, the Pinot Noir theme is continued along with some delicious Chardonnay wines and a Crémant de Bourgogne.
Designed by architects Noel Lane and Tom Rowe, the Cellar Door offers panoramic views across the vineyard and Cromwell Basin to Lake Dunstan. Surrounded by mountain ranges, the view forms a classic Central Otago landscape.
The architecture is inspired by local, historical buildings from the era of the humble structures of gold miners and farmers who created shelter from readily available, simple materials. The building honours this legacy by featuring corrugated iron roofs and walls, a lean-to porch and galvanised sheet chimneys. Layered onto the European settler architecture are old-world French references, such as the chandeliers and herringbone floor to remind guests of the connection with Domaine Thomson’s sister vineyards in Burgundy, France.
Whether in the heat of summer, or with the comfort of a log fire in winter, the Cellar Door is a welcoming spot to try Domaine-Thomson wines.
