Alpine Lakes Heli-Hike (4.5 hours)
This tour begins with a short helicopter flight that ends 1400 metres above the Matukituki Valley on a ridge bordering Mount Aspiring National Park. From this vantage point, visitors can appreciate Mount Aspiring in all its snow-capped glory as well as the surrounding glaciers and three alpine lakes.
A two-hour hike takes walkers through alpine tussocks and past clear blue lakes. There is plenty of time here to take photographs while an experienced guide explains more about the area and shares some of its history and stories. On the return flight, you have another spectacular alpine landing for a brief photo opportunity before heading back to Wanaka.

Lord of the Rings fans might like to try the ‘Misty Mountains' Heli-Hike that not only offers great views, but also takes in many of the locations used in filming The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
On this trip the helicopter lands first at Fog Peak from which three film locations can be seen, before heading on to Treble Cone, another of the film's locations, and the start of a two-hour downhill trek traversing the ridgeline, revealing huge rock pillars, canyons, cliffs and glaciers feeding rivers and lakes below - a real adventure! Both trips include 3 helicopter flights and 2 alpine landings.
