Eco Wanaka Guided Walks

Wanaka

Walking and Hiking Tours Mountain Activities

The trek requires reasonable fitness and participants should wear comfortable shoes or boots and bring a small backpack with them.

One of the best ways to enjoy the Wanaka region is on foot, and the experienced guides at Eco Adventures Wanaka can help visitors get the most from these experiences.

Their guided walks include the services of a local guide, transport to and from local accommodation and lunch (not included on the Outlet Track Walk).

Rob Roy Glacier Guided Walk (9am - 6pm)

Just a 1 hour drive from Wanaka is the beautiful World Heritage area of the Mt Aspiring National Park.  Within the park is the Matukituki valley, home to the Rob Roy Glacier.  Our guided walk begins along the banks of the Matukituki River. We enter Mt Aspiring National Park via a swing bridge over the river, the walk steadily climbs into a New Zealand Beech Rainforest with a wide variety of flaura & fauna.

After walking for 2.5 hours, the forest drops away and we enter open ground. Here the beauty of Rob Roy Glacier unfolds. Take time to relax and enjoy one of the best views Mother Nature offers, while eating a gourmet lunch!

PRICE: Adult $380; Child $250 (until Sept 30th 2025)
PRICE: Adult $420; Child $275 (Oct 1st 2025 - Sept 30th 2026)

Diamond Lake / Rocky Mountain (9am - 3pm)

Eco Adventures Wanaka offers a full day guided trip to the top of Rocky Mountain, passing Diamond Lake for those wanting more of a challenge. The walk includes some very beautiful scenery along the way as you pass through bluff forests with Fantails and Bellbirds to be spotted on the way.  At the summit of Rocky Mountain there are amazing 360 degree views of the Matukituki valley, Mt Aspiring, the world heritage Southern Alps, Lake Wanaka and it's islands. In places the track can be a little steep but easy enough if you take your time.

PRICE: Adult $360; Child $220 (until Sept 30th 2025)

Blue Pools & Bridle Track Guided Walk (9am - 5pm)

This combination of walks is definitely a highlight of the Haast Pass - in World Heritage Mt. Aspiring National Park.  We walk down the easy gravel path through the Silver Beech Forest to the Blue Pools. Here we might spot feeding Rainbow and Brown trout from the swing bridge over the Makarora River.  Next, we have lunch at Cameron Flat, with commanding views over the Makarora River to the Main Divide of the Southern Alps.

After lunch, we follow the Bridle Track on the original and horse-only access road to the West Coast.  The walk passes through beech forest, and follows the upper reaches of the Makarora River, with stunning river and valley views.  The two river crossings we encounter are both bridged. We meet the vehicle at the top end at Haast Pass so there is no need to back track.  Departing the Haast Pass we return to Wanaka with wonderful views of both Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea and many photo opportunities along the way.
