Description
Day 1: Queenstown to Te Anau via Fiordland National Park
Start at 8 am with pickup from Steamer’s Wharf, Queenstown. Transfer to Te Anau, enjoying a scenic drive along Milford Road with short walks and photo stops. Hike the Routeburn Track to Key Summit or Greenstone Valley (8-14 km, 400 m ascent/descent on rough terrain). Return for optional group dinner. Weather can change quickly and itinerary may adjust at the guide’s discretion.
Day 2: Fiordland National Park and Lake Manapouri
After breakfast, take a jet boat to Lake Manapouri. Hike the Kepler Track through beech forests and cross Waiau River on a swing bridge. Lunch at Rainbow Reach. Optional visits to Te Anau Bird Sanctuary, Glow Worm Caves, or scenic walks around Te Anau. Hiking distance about 6 km on mostly flat, easy tracks.
Day 3: Milford Sound Exploration
Depart early for Milford Sound. Hike the Milford Track to Giant Gate Falls through lush rainforest (11 km on well-formed but rocky track, minimal vertical gain). Packed lunch at the falls. Then cruise for 2 hours past waterfalls, Mitre Peak, and wildlife including dolphins and seals. Return to Te Anau for a free evening. Bring a raincoat and spare clothes as Milford Sound is very wet.
Day 4: Te Anau to Queenstown via Lake 2 Lake E-Bike Ride
After breakfast, enjoy a 16 km e-bike ride on mostly flat gravel trails along the Lake 2 Lake Trail, following the Waiau River with views of native bush and wetlands. The ride is unaccompanied, with leader check-ins along the route and pick-up at the end. Return to Queenstown by 5 pm. We recommend booking an extra night in Queenstown to accommodate your onward travel.
