Central Otago

For Kids Tours Biking Sightseeing Tours Electric Bikes

If you have extra time, ask about the 5 day/4 night customised trip, comprising the standard tour, plus an add-on day including anything from a 4WD wine safari to golfing or whatever takes your fancy.

Eco-friendly, fully-supported cycle tours along the Otago Central Rail Trail and the other cycling trails of Otago e.g. The Roxburgh Gorge and Clutha Gold trails. Suitable for all the family, with easy riding through the spectacular and historic gold-mining landscape of Central Otago. Accommodation included.

Off The Rails provides premium cycling holidays for all the family on the world-famous 150km Otago Central Rail Trail. Pedal at leisure through old gold mining towns and railway stations, learning about the landscape and heritage of this fascinating area from your local guide.  Bed down in company-maintained Qulamark accredited accommodation and get a real feel for what it was like to live here in days gone by.

Each tour includes pick-up and drop-off in Queenstown, Cromwell or Clyde, modern, comfort geometry bike, helmet, waterproof saddlebag, bike computer, accommodation, breakfast and afternoon tea, and all transport.

The standard 4 day/3 night trip is a carefree adventure into the heart of the Rail Trail. Starting from Clyde, journey through old gold mining settlements, valleys and dams, over viaducts and alongside pretty rivers and creeks. Take your lunch breaks at historic taverns and dine at iconic inns such as the Ranfurly Lion, and The Vulcan in St. Bathans. The first two days you'll pedal off around 45kms, winding down to around 30km the final two days, nice and leisurely.

Customised options for a minimum of 4 people include the shorter 3 day/2 night trip, which packs in most things on the standard trip, but you'll have to cycle a bit further on day 3: a fantastic 60km from Ranfurly to Middlemarch! Time to get those calves working.

The Day Tripper customised option offers pick-up in either Queenstown or Dunedin, and covers 25km from Lauder to Oturehua, taking in the Manuherikia River, Poolburn Gorge and Viaduct (got to have a head for heights!), the Ida Valley. Don't miss the guided tour of Hayes Engineering Works - at this amazing place, time has virtually stood still for over a century.

Accommodation for all tours is in Off The Rails' two properties in Ranfurly, heart of the Rail Trail. As with all other inclusions, the accommodation is exclusive to Off The Rail's guests.
