Directions to First Tracks Wanaka
First Tracks Wanaka is a new activity run by established mountain guiding company Adventure Consultants. This 2,3 or 4-day trip is centred around their newly-built Geo Dome Camp. Located at 1600m in the McKerrow Range, the dome camp offers stunning views over Lake Wanaka, Lake Hawea and the surrounding mountains.
The dome trip is the perfect choice for people who want to make the most of their time in the mountains without the expense of flying in and out each day, or who want to more fully immerse themselves in the mountain surrounds. Each day brings a new skiing or hiking route with time to learn new techniques, while night gives a chance to reflect on the day and experience stunning night sky views.
The dome camp is reached by helicopter. In the summer it's used as a base for climbing and trekking and in the winter for guided skiing, snowboarding and snow-shoeing.
Each trip is led by friendly, qualified and experienced mountain guides who have spent plenty of time in the mountains and know all the best spots as well as how to experience travel in the mountains safely.
The domes are steel framed and PVC-covered with a wooden floor and insulation to keep warm overnight. Real bunk beds provide a comfortable night's sleep, and there is a separate toilet tent. Participants need to bring their own clothing, sleeping gear and skiing equipment but safety equipment can be provided.
Each trip includes a range of healthy and hearty NZ-style meals are made in the built-in kitchen including options for special dietary requirements.
