Ben Lomond Horse Treks Ltd. - Queenstown
Horse trekking in Queenstown's high country. Stunning scenery, with treks for all abilities, including family trips and overnight expeditions to make the most of this incredible landscape. Unmissable.
Ben Lomond Horse Treks Ltd. is the region's premier horseback riding centre, run by a dedicated and professional team, who have as much love and respect for their animals as they do their visitors! This is the only way to see the real Queenstown high country, man and beast in perfect harmony, a real trip back in time.
Imagine what it was like to be a real rancher amongst the rugged alpine landscape, trekking through river gorges, up and down mountainsides awash with spring flowers, and exploring the old gold mining settlements that used to populate the area. It's an activity that suits all ages, with children from as young as 4 years able to enjoy the fun.
Choose from a number of trekking options, like the 90-minute 'Moke Lake Trek', taking in everything from river crossings and high hills, to the wonderfully peaceful lake itself.
The 3.5-hour 'Sefferstown' will give you a real sense of history, as you traverse the valley and spend lunchtime in amongst the ruins of Sefferstown, a 19th century gold mining settlement, before heading back across Moke Creek, passing numerous other relics of Queenstown's gold mining era.
Trekking to 'McConnochie's Creek' is a more sedate ride of 2.5 hours, taking in all the beauty of the Sefferstown, but including a refreshing 15 river crossings, perfect for those balmy summer days.
We also have a variety of different treks available ranging from 2 hours to 9 hours so we are sure that we have something for everyone!
For the ultimate high country trekking adventure, though, you simply must try the High Country 'Heli-Horse experience', a once-in-a-lifetime expedition, 25km into some of New Zealand's most stunning, naturally-inspiring hills and tussocks, taking you through centuries-old gorges, magical forests and rolling rivers. On this trip, you'll stay overnight (or longer!) at Ben Lomond Lodge, with a huge dinner and breakfast provided, and a good night's sleep guaranteed, before the helicopter drops you back at Queenstown's Skyline Gondola.
Leave the car at base, and get saddled up ready to explore this unique part of New Zealand with your experienced and friendly hosts, who'll not only guide you into some of the country's most picturesque panoramic landscape, but will be ready to fascinate and enthrall you with tales of the old ranchers and miners who used to live off this very land. Their enthusiasm is infectious, so be prepared to be seduced by the freedom and exhilaration of riding through this authentic wild country, for an absolutely unforgettable New Zealand experience.
