Works by: Bach, J.S. - Bach, C.P.E - Vivaldi - Mancini - Mercer - Gershwin and more
“Characterized by inspirational musicianship,” the Classical Jazz Quartet is back in Queenstown in a summer mood with a new cocktail of skilfully blended jazz infused classics!
For an afternoon of warmth, fun and great music, we have the irrepressible Barry Brinson on keys, Doug Brush, the master of drum kit colours, Michael Davis grooving down low on double bass, and the gorgeous rich tone of Cathy Irons' violin.
CJQ begin their musical journey with the Baroque era re-imagined - Vivaldi's Concerto in A minor, J.S. Bach's Bouree, through CPE Bach's Solfeggietto and a solo violin arrangement of an African folk song, to arrive at the greats of Gershwin (arr. Heifetz) - Summertime, A Woman is a Sometime Thing, Bess, You is My Woman Now, It Ain't Necessarily So and the ebullient Rhapsody in Blue.
With informative and engaging commentary by the performers, and a wonderful array of music, it's all set for an uplifting 'feel good' afternoon ahead.
Each a recognised musician in their own field, the Classical Jazz Quartet revel in getting together, ignoring convention and freely cross the boundaries of music with conviction and delight. All have extensive NZ and international experience.
